Research data collection exercise at Ode-Omu, Osun State by Demography students, 2018

Every Rain semester, the 300 level students of the Department of Demography and Social Statistics embark on three days field trip to selected towns to collect research data. The exercise is part of the requirements for passing DSS 306 and is aimed at exposing the students to the practice of data collection for research purpose.

The 2018 research data collection exercise was conducted at Ode-Omu, one of the major towns in Osun State, Nigeria. The academic members of staff alongside the students designed data collection instrument to investigate certain demographic and health characteristics of women and children in Ode-Omu. Quantitative data were collected on the first and second days while qualitative data (Focus Group Discussion) were collected on the third day.

The exercise was marked with profound skill acquisition and further exposure by the students.
